Warriors/Lady Warriors Compete in District Cross Country
Monday, October 24th, the high school and jr. high cross country runners traveled to Canyon for their District meet. Our Warriors and Lady Warriors fought against gusts of 40 mph winds and heat, as well as hills and some tough competition in order to prove themselves as might Warriors and Lady Warriors. Each runner new what to expect on the course because they ran this same course on Sat. Oct. 15th; however, despite this knowledge, each runner was still nervous before their race. This was a normal reaction which proves that these athletes were ready to compete.
Results:
High School Girl: Vanessa Lapka-Castillo ran her 2 mile in 19:01. This was Vanessa’s first and only meet this year. She had a set back early this season and had been trying to recover from an injury. Despite this hurtle she had to overcome, she finished her race strong. Great job, Vanessa!!
High School Boys: Greg Carrell placed 14th out of 50 boys with a time of 21:39. The boys had to run a 5K, which is 3.1 miles. Greg just missed a trip to Regionals by 4 places. Isaiah Castillo placed 22nd out of the 50 boys with a time of 23:40. Isaiah is participating in two sports at the same time. After talking with him, he sounds like he’s learned a lot this cross country season and is ready to return next year as a faster and stronger runner. Regionals next year, boys! They both have it in them.
Jr. High Girls: Brittany Hare placed 2nd out of about 35 girls with a time of 15:35. Kenzy Milburn was 3rd with a time of 15:43 and Kennedy Gill was 4th with a time of 15:52. Leah Peffley was 14th with a time of 17:43 and Jaydyn Crawford was 16th with a time of 18:38. These placements put the jr. high girls in 1st place as a team. Yes, that means District Champs!!! In cross country, the team with the least amount of points is the winner. The girls scored 27 points, with the 2nd place team scoring 49 points. That’s a huge gap. Congratulations ladies, what an accomplishment!!!!
Jr. High Boy: Renegade Layton placed 14th out of about 30+ boys with a time of 16:30. Renegade had his own unexpected struggle on the course, but finished strong and proved himself as a mighty Warrior! Great job, Renengade!!
